1964 Mercury Comet Caliente2 door hardtop VIN 4H23K548099. The data plate information is: Body 63D, Color G, Trim 39A, Date 14A, DSO 42, Axle 1, and Trans 6. This is a project car, and it is for the most part complete and does have a lot of potential. The body is amazingly straightshowing no major body damage, and also the exterior trim is in very good conditon including the bumpers. The grill and headlight trim is very nice. There is one piece of trim on the right side above the wheel opening that is dented and will need to be replaced. The deck lid was damaged at one time or another and the body work did not hold up (the deck lid should be replaced but could be re-repaired).The belly of the car is very solid including floors, all frame rails, torque boxes, trunk floor, and engine compartment aprons, shock towers and battery area. Although there are several places on the body where surface rust is visable the only through rust is on the rear quarters in the wheel opening area (both sides needlowerpatch panels) and low in the front fender area both fenders have golf ball size through rust. The color is Palamino (tan), with matching interior. All of the glass is very good with only a light wiper mark in the windshield and no chip or cracks in any of the glass. All the side windows operate smooth as the should. The interior is original and as you can tell by the pictures needs work. The insturmentation is complete as it should be, even the original Mercury AM radio is still there. The dash pad is cracked in the middle of the dash. This Comet is powered by the "K" code, Cyclone Super 289 CI V8, and a C4 automatic transmission. Since the car has been is storage for several yearsthe the conditon of the drive train is unknown, but the engine will turn over and is not siezed up.The mileage on the car shows 88,260 and that appears to be original. Documentation shows that in 1973 when it was 9 years old it only had 50,400 miles so it was not driven much in it's early years. For wheelsit has a set of very nice 14" X 7" Magnum 500's, these are the ones with the chrome spokes but for some reason they have been painted black, they should clean up very nicely. In the trunk with the spare and tire tools are 4 original hubcaps in very good conditon. The car has a good Kansas Title. Like I said in the beginning this is a project car that is currently not running and will have to be towed or hauled to it's new home. I have tried to describe this car to the best of my ability but have probably missed something that you would like to know, if so please ask. If you are close and would like to visually inspect the car in person before the end of the auction again ask and arrangements will be made. The reserve is set very reasonable for what this Comet is and the winning bidder will not be disappointed.
